Events Description

First Tuesday puts the "social" into Social Venture Partners Rhode Island. Held the first Tuesday of every month from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, this is an opportunity for SVPRI partners to network with one another, and for prospective partners to get to know us and learn about our passion for social enterprise in an informal setting. All are welcome to attend!

The Spotlight Series provides a bi-monthly forum in which nonprofit leaders who have launched or are contemplating launching a social enterprise can share with one another their successes and the challenges they face. During some sessions a particular nonprofit will be in the "spotlight" hosting the meeting on site at their social enterprise, if appropriate, and sharing their insights and concerns. Other sessions might feature a presenter on an issue of common interest - for example, "unrelated business income" regulations, opportunities for nonprofits to jointly market their social enterprise products and services. Often, SVPRI Partners will also attend and share their insights from the for-profit sector. Partners, prospective partners and nonprofits interested in social enterprise are invited to attend.

Typically, our Partner Meetings are held quarterly, and combine formal SVPRI business with informal networking. Sometimes a current investee will present a status update and we'll have a structured brainstorming session to help them with a particular challenge they are facing. The location of these meetings varies based on the topical focus. Partners and prospective partners are welcome to attend.

URI Student Presentations - Each year, SVPRI helps to identify social enterprise projects for the University of Rhode Island's one-year MBA program. URI students spend a semester conducting stakeholder analyses, and ultimately recommend an appropriate business for each nonprofit organization to pursue. During the second semester, students serve as consultants to the nonprofits to formulate business plans for their social enterprises. Second semester culminates with business plan presentations by each student group, typically hosted at one of the SVPRI Partners' offices. Partners and nonprofits are encouraged to attend.
